Atletico Mineiro suffered a controversy in friendly against Chile, with Rafael Leão punching Ivan Román in the face. The referee gave both players a red card. The fight occurred at 44 minutes of the first half, when the Portuguese João Cancelo suffered a foul and took satisfaction with Faúndez, from Chile. Both exchanged accusations and fought, but nothing went beyond the pushing and shoving. Suddenly, a group of players formed, and Rafael Leão and Román got into a scuffle. The Portuguese then hit the face of the Chilean, who fell to the ground with (apparently) many pains. The Italian referee Luca Zufferli gave both players a red card. Chile failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Portugal, with Cristiano Ronaldo, will debut against the Congo on the next day 17, in a match valid for group K of the World Cup.
