The history of Atletico Mineiro begins in 1908, in the kiosk of the Parque Municipal de Belo Horizonte, when a group of students decided to found the club. One of the first curiosities about the Galo is that the club's first headquarters was located in the basement of one of its founders, Margival Leal, known as Vape.

One of the greatest icons of world football, Pelé, also had a special relationship with Atletico Mineiro. The King of Football was a fan of the Galo, and his father, Dondinho, was a player for the club in 1940.
